David J Mumford

David J Mumford is an author from Manchester, UK, who began his writing journey with the “Beyond the Glassway” series after years of starting novels but never finishing them. In 2024, he challenged himself to complete his first book, which became The Shadow Weaver—a story he hopes will one day inspire his future children to embrace their creativity and believe they can achieve anything with the right mindset.

While Mumford gravitates toward non-fiction, particularly psychology books that explore how different minds work, and philosophical texts like Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, he appreciates the varied approaches fiction writers bring to their craft. His writing process has evolved from spontaneous chapter planning to carefully plotting full stories and developing detailed character profiles.

Mumford is currently working on a standalone psychological thriller that incorporates elements of Manchester itself—a project he first conceived at seventeen and began writing in earnest in early 2025. He’s also developing the sequel to The Shadow Weaver, the second book in his Beyond the Glassway series.

His writing doesn’t follow a rigid schedule. Instead, Mumford works in waves of inspiration, sometimes going weeks without writing before becoming intensely focused and producing thousands of words in just a few days. Through writing, he’s discovered not only that he can finish what he starts, but that he genuinely loves the creative process of crafting stories—a realization that didn’t fully hit him until his early thirties.

After several false starts in other genres (including an abandoned sci-fi project), Mumford has found his voice in fantasy and psychological fiction, though he hasn’t ruled out returning to other genres someday.
